It was the last performance of Sunday in the Park at the Booth Theatre and we went downstairs, there was a little bar there, and we had a drink.
Stephen said to me at the bar, “Was this a good experience for you?” referring to the whole thing.
I said, “Yeah, really great. How ‘bout you?”
“Well for me,” he said, “it’s just like all the others.”
“Really? It was just like all the others for you?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay.”I was sort of stunned. Ten years later we did a charity concert for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and there we were again in a little drinking bar after that show.
And I said, “Steve, do you remember the conversation we had ten years ago at the Booth Theatre when you said for you it was like all the others, it was just the same? Do you remember that?”
“Oh, yeah.”
“Well, do you know now how full of shit you were?”
And he laughed and he said, “Yes, I do.”- Mandy Patinkin (x)
